Verdict Is in for Grammy-Winning Musician in Murder-for-Hire Case ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The verdict is in. Today, Sept. 11, a jury found Lil Durk, the Grammy-winning rapper on trial for plotting to kill rapper Quando Rondo as revenge for King Von’s murder, not guilty. The result came after three days of deliberation.

In 2024, Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, 33, was arrested and charged in connection with a 2022 shooting. By the time his federal trial began, he faced five counts related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting Rondo and the resulting death of Saviay’a Robinson.

According to Pitchfork, prosecutors argued that Lil Durk worked with five others tied to his Only the Family collective to set in motion a plan to kill Tyquian Bowman, a rival Atlanta rapper known as Quando Rondo. The killing, they said, was revenge for the 2020 murder of Durk’s friend, Dayvon “King Von” Bennett.

Per the outlet, “Timothy ‘Lul Timm’ Leeks, who prosecutors said was ‘an associate’ of Bowman’s, was later charged with killing Von. Those charges were eventually dropped.”

According to prosecutors, the alleged plot ended in the mistaken death of Bowman’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, who was 24 years old and shot during the daylight hours on Aug. 19, 2022, near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.

In a report from ABC Eyewitness News, Banks’ team argued that his former personal assistant, Kavon Grant, was the person who set up the murder-for-hire plot.

If convicted, Banks would have faced a life sentence in federal prison. Although Banks was acquitted in the murder-for-hire case, he remains in federal custody as he awaits a separate trial on racketeering charges that were severed from this case.

Lil Durk, who won his Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024, was working with defense attorney Drew Findling, along with defense lawyers Christy O’Connor and Brian Steel, who collectively praised the court process and commended the judge for a thorough review.
