PISMO BEACH, Calif. —Corgi Nation Vacation and Pismo Corgi Fest are taking over the Central Coast for three days of tail-wagging fun, bringing corgis, dog lovers, and their humans together from across California and beyond.
Corgi Nation Vacation is a full destination weekend built around everyone’s favorite short-legged, big-personality pups transforming picturesque Pismo Beach into a paws-itively perfect vacation paradise filled with special events and plenty of opportunities to make new four-legged and two-legged friends.
"Well it all started in 2012...Mr dog Mr. Pickles, he had an injury and it took a long time for him to get better and we finally had a beach party when he was healthy and 20 corgis showed up," shared Dan McLemore, the co-founder of SoCal Corgi Nation with Your News Channel. "Then the next one like 50 corgis and it kept doubling every time we had an event and now thousands and thousands of corgis come. It's amazing.
The weekend kicks off with a Tiki-themed Welcome Party today at Dolphin Bay.
Then Saturday is the big community event, with Pismo Corgi Fest getting underway at 10 a.m.
The free event will feature corgi and dog contests throughout the morning, including the Corgi Chowder Chomp Eating Contest, Fetch Fanatic, a costume contest, and Best Momo — a lighthearted competition celebrating the best corgi butt.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to capture the moment with your furry friend, including photo opportunities, a Corgi Speed Zone where you can see just how fast those little legs can move, 12 pet-centric vendors and all kinds of activities for dogs and their humans.
The corgis may be the stars of the show, but organizers say the weekend is really about community, giving people a chance to make memories with their best friend, meet fellow dog lovers and maybe even make a few new lifelong friends along the way.
All dogs are welcome to join in the three-day event, where you’ll have plenty of chances to make memories with your best friend and meet new friends — both two-legged and four-legged.
SoCal Corgi Nation is a family-run organization founded by husband-and-wife team Dan and Kelly McLemore, along with their son and their corgi, Chappy.
This marks the third-year Corgi Nation Vacation and Pismo Corgi Fest have brought the corgi craze to Pismo Beach.
Pismo Corgi Fest is September 12th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pismo Beach.
