Reba McEntire doesn’t need AI to show her what she looked like in the ’80s—she has the receipts.
The country icon poked fun at a viral social media trend that has users asking ChatGPT to generate images of what they might have looked like during the decade. Instead of creating an AI version of herself, McEntire, 71, went straight to the archives.
“No AI needed here, I know what I looked like in the 80s!!!” she joked on Instagram alongside two very real throwback photos.
The first showed a younger McEntire rocking a curly, mullet-like haircut with a pastel sweater and blue jeans. In the second, the “Fancy” singer sported longer curly hair pulled into a ponytail while wearing a rust-colored shirt and ripped jeans as she posed in a chair.

“The only correct answer,” one said, while another wrote, “This is the flex you think this is.”
“ATE EVERYONE UP,” replied a third.
A fourth said, “What would Reba do? Certainly not use ai!”
While McEntire’s response to the trend was all in good fun, it isn’t the first time she’s made her feelings about AI-generated images known.

In October 2025, McEntire responded after fake images involving both her and longtime friend Dolly Parton began circulating online. One falsely depicted Parton in a hospital bed with McEntire by her side, while another bizarrely showed McEntire holding a sonogram.
“You tell ’em, Dolly! That AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things,” McEntire said at the time. “You’re out there dying, I’m out here having a baby.” She continued, “Well, both of us know you’re too young and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense.”
The exchange has taken on a much sadder meaning since then. Parton died on August 25 at age 80 following a brief battle with an undisclosed type of cancer.
