Bears injury report: Tyson Bagent out, Rome Odunze limited again ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

The Chicago Bears practiced at Halas Hall Thursday, and it’s looking more likely they could have a different backup quarterback this weekend.

That’s because Tyson Bagent was out of action again as he continues to deal with a back injury. While Wednesday’s injury report was an estimation, he was not on the field working with the team on Thursday, causing a growing possibility he could miss the team’s opener against the Carolina Panthers.

If Bagent can’t suit up, then Case Keenum would likely serve as the backup quarterback when the team travels to Charlotte for this weekend’s game?

Two other Bears players weren’t on the practice field, with defensive lineman Grady Jarrett and offensive lineman Joe Thuney receiving veterans’ rest days. Both players are expected to be on the field Sunday.

Multiple Bears players were limited participants in Thursday’s workout, including wide receiver Rome Odunze, who has been dealing with a calf injury this week.

Ideally Odunze will still be able to play Sunday, but if he can’t go it could result in more work for Luther Burden, Jahdae Walker and the rest of the Bears’ receivers as they try to secure a season-opening victory.

Offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo was also limited as he continues his recovery from a torn patellar tendon he suffered during the 2026 playoffs. Head coach Ben Johnson hasn’t established a timeline for Trapilo to be back in the lineup, but all signs are pointing toward the lineman being back on the field at some point in the early stages of the season.

There was one addition to the injury report on Thursday for the Bears, as defensive back Xavier Woods was listed as a limited participant in the workout as he works through a groin injury.

On the Panthers’ side of things, outside linebacker Patrick Jones II was out of action again Thursday with a back injury, and according to the team, head coach Dave Canales has said he doesn’t expect him to be on the field for Sunday’s game.

Starting defensive tackle Bobby Brown III was a full participant after being limited with a back injury Wednesday, and running back Jonathon Brooks was also limited with a groin injury, though both are expected to play on Sunday.

Kickoff is set for noon between the teams, with the game airing on Fox.
