Actor Noel Clarke, best known for his starring role in the long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who, has been officially charged for alleged sexual offenses in the United Kingdom, according to the BBC.
The six specific charges include two counts of sexual assault, three charges of voyeurism and one charge of exposure. The date of the alleged offenses range from 2007 to 2016, involving five separate women.
As per the BBC, the Crown Protection Service recently allowed the Metropolitan Police to formally charge the 50-year-old Clarke in connection to the reported offenses.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” the CPS said in an official statement earlier this week.
Clarke has yet to respond to the charges. He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 21 of this year at 10:00 BST.
Of the case, Det. Supt. Mike Cagney, whose team is spearheading the investigation, said, “The women connected to these charges continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”
“We urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to contact police,” Cagney continued. “The information you provide will be dealt with in the utmost sensitivity and we have trained investigators on hand to support you.”
As viewers might recall, Clarke is best known for his on-screen role as the Doctor Who regular character Mickey Smith. Initially portrayed as the love interest to Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, Mickey eventually becomes the unlikely companion to Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and David Tennant’s fan-favorite Tenth Doctor.
Appearing with the revival series’ first episode in 2005, Clarke’s final appearance on Doctor Who came in 2010. In addition to Doctor Who, he is also known for appearing in Kidulthood, Adultood, Brotherhood and Bulletproof, among others.
