In a wide-ranging interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King that aired on Thursday, September 10, Dolly Parton‘s younger sister, Stella, dropped several surprising details about her famous sister, who died at age 80 on August 25, and the public’s response.
While there’s been an outpouring of love and sympathy from fans and famous friends since Dolly’s death, Stella, 77, revealed that she has not heard from anyone in the country music capital.
“I haven’t heard from anybody in Nashville since my sister passed away,” Stella told King. Jaw dropped, King replied, “What do you mean, Stella?”

Though Dolly kept her political views close to the vest, Stella has been outspoken against the Trump administration, including tweeting on August 14, “The incompetence and egotism in this rogue administration has us teetering on the edge of disaster everyday! Congress and the SCOTUS are doing nothing as if they all have taken a vow of silence as they crash and burn it to the ground.”
When King noted that Dolly “famously kept her political opinions private,” Stella quipped, “She had them.” But when King pressed her for details, she laughed, “I’m not telling! But she had them.”
Stella then quipped, “She was smarter than me! You know, I tell everything. I like everybody knowing what I think about it.”
But her big sister, she said, “was a good businesswoman.” She also said she wanted everyone to remember Dolly as “very sweet, kind, loving, brilliant, brilliant, and so talented. Her creativity had no bounds, you know, and she could dream bigger than anybody. And I want young people, youn girls and boys that may think they have no opportunity to dream (to know) coming from our situation, she gave us permission to dream that way.”
