Dolly Parton returned to the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart (dated Sept. 5) a week ago as “Jolene” and “9 to 5” reentered at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively. On the latest ranking (Sept. 12), “Jolene” slips to No. 9, with “9 to 5” holding at No. 8 to rank as the legend’s current top-charting hit.

As previously reported, the beloved entertainer died Aug. 25 in Nashville at age 80.

Notably, “9 to 5” clocked a 4% week-over-week gain to 9.8 million official U.S. streams Aug. 28-Sept. 3, according to Luminate. Helping spark its increase, ABC aired the hit 1980 movie of the same name — starring Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin — on Aug. 30. Per Variety, it averaged 4.275 million viewers in live+ same day ratings, making it the most watched film on a broadcast network in more than three-and-a-half years.

(Reflecting Parton’s unique appeal, Variety also noted the airing marked “a rarity in itself for a broadcast network to run a movie that old.”)

“9 to 5” also totaled 2.5 million in radio audience (down 65%) and 10,000 sold (down 31%).

Despite its drop in sales, “9 to 5” works its way to No. 1 on Digital Song Sales for the first time, up from No. 3. It replaces Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” which falls to No. 3 a week after it debuted at No. 1 (8,000, down 50%). In between, “Jolene” keeps at No. 2 (9,000, down 42%). Parton is the first artist to hold the chart’s top three spots for consecutive weeks since Ozzy Osbourne did so last August, also following his passing.

“Jolene” additionally drew 9.6 million streams (down 6%) and 2.1 million in radio audience (down 61%).

Both “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” topped Hot Country Songs in 1974 and “9 to 5” led in 1981, contributing to Parton’s 25 career leaders on the list, the most among women.

On the Billboard Hot 100, “9 to 5” ranks at No. 19, down from No. 18, “Jolene” descends 16-22 and “I Will Always Love You” falls 27-45. A week earlier, the latter two classics became top 40 Hot 100 hits for the first time.
