Emma said the progressive nature of FTD has left her repeatedly grieving changes in the man she loves. “It is extremely difficult and painful. It’s natural, we all want our loved ones to be healthy, full of life and being the person they always were,” she said.
“But FTD is a devastating illness that steals things from you very slowly. So the reality is that you find yourself constantly in a state of grief.”

Emma also addressed a common misconception about Bruce’s condition. “Bruce doesn’t have Alzheimer’s – he has frontotemporal dementia, which affects a completely different part of the brain.”
She said she hopes that distinction becomes better understood, particularly in media coverage of dementia. “That’s why what I’d love to see, once and for all, is a shift in the media.”
Emma added that she wants reporting to help educate families rather than create additional fear around a diagnosis. “I wish they’d inform themselves about the different types of dementia and learn to report on them accurately – educating the public rather than feeding fear and stigma.”
How Is Bruce Willis’ Family Supporting Him?
Emma said Bruce remains surrounded by the family he spent years supporting, including ex-wife Demi Moore and daughters Rumer Willis, 38, Scout Willis, 35, and Tallulah Willis, 32.
“The key lies in understanding that I am part of a family where every single one of us has decided to show up for Bruce, always looking for a way that is healthy for everyone. Each one of us has their own relationship with him that’s unique and special,” she told Hello.
Emma and Bruce also share daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12. “What has been truly beautiful to see throughout this process is how we all pour our hearts into supporting him – how deeply we love him, while completely respecting the way each person chooses to express that love.”
“I think the balance we’ve found is simply a reflection of who Bruce is at his core – it’s the result of all the love and support he planted over the years coming right back to him now.”
