When I saw the first breaking news notification, my initial reaction was, “OK, but will he be the starter when the Bears play the Falcons in Week 6?” That is a fair question to ask, mind you. Tagovailoa struggled in his final season with the Miami Dolphins, and it’s not as if he made major waves during training camp. It wouldn’t surprise me if Michael Penix Jr. replaces Tagovailoa before the Bears and Falcons kick off in Atlanta. Would you be surprised?

Playrers with their arrows pointing up. And some still fighting to keep their status as QB1. There are three quarterbacks (Allen, Maye, Goff) who checked in as top-10 quarterbacks according to ESPN’s polling of league executives, coaches, and staffers. Five others (Hurts, Lawrence, Mayfield, Love, Darnold) were honorable mentions who just missed the top 10. In case you’re wondering, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ranked 10th.
A fun factoid about the list above is that there are five quarterbacks (Mayfield, Goff, Lawrence, Murray, Young) who were taken first overall in their NFL Draft class. In other words, Williams will face five fellow No. 1 overall picks. That should make for some fun storytelling this season.
