CLARKSON, N.Y. — Advantage Federal Credit Union is matching donations to help residents displaced by a fire in Clarkson.
The credit union said it will match donations up to $40,000 through a partnership with the Salvation Army and Brockport Community Connection. Four people were hurt in the fire at a Lake Road apartment complex in June, and 30 were left without a home.
Months after the fire, some residents are still without homes or belongings and continue to need assistance.
“Getting back on our feet is a very slow process, and just totally grateful for the support from the community — and it’s been very heartwarming and overwhelming of the amount of people wanting to help,” Jessica Thibaut, one of the fire victims, said at a gathering Saturday at the Seymour Library in Brockport.
Jeff Bocach, president and CEO at Advantage Federal Credit Union, said some residents had renter’s insurance — :but that just replaces things,” he said.
“It doesn’t help them with their security deposit or their first month’s rent for a new place,” Bocach said. “This can help them with those things.”
