HOPEWELL, N.Y. — On Friday, just before 11 a.m., the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-car crash on State Routes 5 and 20 and Algerine Street. The injuries from the crashes were all serious, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators say the driver of a Chrysler was going west when she was attempting to pass several other cars in front of her. The driver eventually drove into the path of a Subaru that was headed east; this led to the Subaru crashing with the Chrysler, causing the Chrysler to rotate in the lane. Then, the Chrysler was hit by a Kia that was also headed east, the sheriff’s office explained.
The driver of the Chrysler received serious and potentially life-threatening injuries, and both the driver of the Subaru and the Kia received serious injuries, according to deputies. The driver of the Chrysler was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, and the other two drivers were taken by ambulance to the same hospital.
As of around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, the hospital told us the Subaru driver is in the emergency room, and the Kia driver is in guarded condition. We weren’t given any update on the Chrysler driver.
The crash is under investigation, and tickets haven’t been given out yet. New York State Police, Hopewell Fire Department, and Canandaigua Ambulance also assisted the scene.
Routes 5 and 20 were shut down until nearly 2 p.m.
