MUST WATCH: You’ve Gotta See Caleb Williams On Hot Ones ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

We saw Caleb Williams perform under pressure in frigid cold temperatures in big games at Soldier Field last season, so I was curious to see how he’d handle the spice levels while answering questions on the “Hot Ones” YouTube interview series.

Ultimately, I was impressed. Not only did Williams make it through the entire challenge, but he also did so while sharing some fun answers.

My Favorite Caleb Williams Answers From His “Hot Ones” Appearance

A handful of my favorite quips from QB1’s visit:

Is there something about Chicago that surprised you: “I didn’t think I was going to like it that much, to be honest. And I fell in love with the city of Chicago. The people, the food, obviously the sports. … The people, I would say, is the biggest thing. I didn’t realize the people were so hospitable. And then, also, Chicago’s actually insanely clean. So it surprised me.”

The Chicago tourism board needs to clip that and market the heck out of it. Caleb Williams doing free PR for one of the world’s greatest cities is pure gold. As a lifelong Chicagoan, I love it when an outsider arrives and immerses themselves in the scene and the culture. Chicago really is a great place. But don’t just take it from me, take it from QB1!

Caleb Williams compares the coach-quarterback dynamic to jazz: “There’s parts of it, at least my coach in my situation, like he’s super tough and he’s on the mentor aspect of it, and he’s coached me hard, and I have respect for that, and I love him for that because that’s what I want. I want to reach things and reach some of my goals, and you need somebody like that around you to show you what you don’t know. And the jazz part is typically on Sundays. I think you get on the field and it becomes poetic. It becomes a good old jazz night.”

I never thought I’d hear a quarterback discuss their relationship with a coach and compare it to making jazz.

Williams on the clutch gene: “I think some people have it, some people don’t. I think you can also make it stronger, but it can also weaken. I think part of it is a mindset. And I think some things you can’t research. I think some things you can’t put into a lab and say, ‘we’re going to look at this or that.’ I think when it becomes that moment that we need to go score, I take that deep breath right before the moment, and it zones me in, and it feels like everything’s shut off. And I think part of it comes from the confidence and the hard work that I’ve put in, to where when I take that deep breath, it goes back to that time where it’s me out in Jacksonville or L.A. working out, throwing to my guys in Chicago, working out, and it snaps me into that mode. And I think the full trust and faith and belief goes into my coaches, my teammates, and myself.” Caleb Williams vs. the Packers at Soldier Field. | © Mark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Some other fun or notable things:

Caleb Williams mentions a book he is reading called “Chop Wood and Carry Water.” As someone who wants to get back into reading books, I’m putting this on my watch list. When asked which teammate is most likely to become a head coach in 20 years, Williams mentions tight end Cole Kmet and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. He also mentions third-string quarterback Case Keenum, noting that the veteran quarterback has a head start because he is already coaching his children. Caleb Williams on the smartest football mind? All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney. The players he’s learned the most from? Keenum and wide receiver Keenan Allen. Best celebrations: Jahdae Walker or Luther Burden. “They’re unbeatable.” Caleb Williams’ response to a question about the most talkative teammate got an audible laugh out of me: “Jahdae Walker. You hear Jahdae Walker when you wake up. You hear him when you go to sleep. You hear him in the locker room as soon as you get to the locker room.” This is a bar: “I don’t want to be controlled by the sauce; I want to control the sauce.”
