Mike Farrell is paying tribute to his late wife, Shelley Fabares.
The actress died on Saturday, Aug 22, from pneumonia. She was 82 years old.
Farrell and Fabares married in 1984. The pair met years earlier when Farrell was promoting his show M*A*S*H while Fabares was promoting her role on the sitcom One Day at a Time.
Farrell posted a photo of him holding Fabares on Instagram on Aug. 31. He captioned the photo, “Miss you… Will always love you ❤️#shelleyfabares #love #loveyou #loveforever.”
The actress’s family announced her death in a statement to People on Friday, Aug. 23.
“To her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter and comfort,” they wrote. “She was a devoted wife, cherished stepmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, family member and loyal friend whose warmth, generosity, humor and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued and cared for.”
Her family celebrated her illustrious career, sharing that she saw success as an actress and singer. Her 1961 song “Johnny Angel” became a No.1 hit. She also shared the screen with Elvis Presley three times, in Girl Happy (1965), Spinout (1966), and Clambake (1967). She was best known for her work on The Donna Reed Show, One Day at a Time, and Coach.
“She brought talent, intelligence, and warmth to every performance,” the statement continued. “But to those closest to her, her greatest legacy was personal: the love she gave so freely, the friendships she treasured, and the family bonds she held dear.”
Fabares died in Los Angeles, surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Mike Farrell, and two stepchildren, Erin and Michael.
