TCU to be without key player vs. North Carolina, per report ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

For the second straight year, the TCU Horned Frogs are beginning their college football season against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

This go-round, they’re battling in Ireland, but the Horned Frogs won’t have their full cast.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, TCU will be without wide receiver Jordan Dwyer on Saturday. Dwyer, the Horned Frogs’ leading returning receiver in all triple crown categories — 54 receptions, 730 yards, 7 touchdowns — has been dealing with a foot injury.

Dwyer’s absence will make Harvard transfer quarterback Jaden Craig’s TCU debut a bit more difficult than anticipated. The Horned Frogs should have running back Jeremy Payne Jr., who averaged 5.7 yards per carry in 2025, to rely upon for today’s game. At receiver, Jeremy Scott and Ed Small could command more touches.

Last season, TCU kicked off its campaign with a 48-14 thrashing of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The Horned Frogs fell behind 7-0 in that contest, then ripped off 41 unanswered points to turn it into a route.

"I think we all felt a little disrespected, maybe, coming in. There was a lot of conversation and none of it was about us. I think we all were highly motivated. Our players were certainly excited to play."TCU coach Sonny Dykes after TCU's 48-14 beatdown of North Carolina. pic.twitter.com/KE43WKBzbg

This year, it’s the Tar Heels who are feeling disrespected heading into their international matchup. Head coach Bill Belichick is hopeful that offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will help the team produce much more than the 19.2 points per game they averaged in 2025. TCU and North Carolina kick off at 12:00 p.m. E.T. (ESPN).
