Dozens of people in Northwest Indiana are still struggling to get their lights back on after the devastating storms and tornadoes that moved through the area on Aug. 11.
Residents at a mobile park home in Lake Station say they’ve been without power for going on 18 days.
Samantha Sheely and some of her neighbors are frustrated.
“The longest we’ve been without power since we’ve lived here was like three to four days,” she said. “This is insane.”
She lives at Mansard Du Lac, a mobile home park with her friend and 2-year-old daughter. They’ve been relying on a generator but said it adds up every single day.
“I’m extremely devastated, I’m exhausted,” she said. “It’s like, we still have to go to work, we still have to function, and it’s just the common things we’re used to having we don’t have.”
She and her neighbors want to know what’s causing the hold-up.

“I figured our voices weren’t loud enough,” she said. “We have been calling and complaining trying to get updates, and everybody without power has, and we’ve just been getting the runaround.”
Lake Station Mayor Bill Carroll met with residents Friday afternoon and was told by NIPSCO it’s out of their hands.
“They said power is restored over there; it’s up to the park now to get it all working,” he said. “Because this is a private management company, they buy power from NIPSCO and then sell it back to the citizens.”
Neighbors said there’s been an ongoing issue with the transformer and that management is waiting on a part for repairs. They brought in a mass generator to power up homes, but only eight are getting service out of the 40 homes.
“This is unacceptable. These storms get worse and worse each time, you know,” he said. “The Mansards are always the last, and that’s not fair and that’s not right.”
