An arrest warrant was issued for a Hoffman Estates man who worked as a youth softball coach in the northern suburbs and faces aggravated criminal sexual assault charges after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with one of his female players.
The warrant, for Eduardo “Eddie” Acosta-Gonzalez, 54, was issued Aug. 21. He is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and faces up to fifteen years in prison for each count, a release from the Vernon Hills Police Department said.
Vernon Hills Police began investigating Acosta-Gonzalez, a softball hitting coach, after a referral from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, according to a release.
The investigation focused on Acosta-Gonzalez’ conduct with a 12-year-old girl while she trained at a Vernon Hills sports performance center where he rented space. The allegations claim Acosta-Gonzalez improperly messaged the victim on two occasions during the spring and summer of 2026, and made inappropriate physical contact with her.
Witness statements suggested Acosta-Gonzalez offered private coaching throughout the Chicago area but was known to coach most recently in Wauconda and Vernon Hills. Investigators have reason to believe he may have acted inappropriately toward additional underage athletes, the release said. Parents of those who trained with Acosta-Gonzalez are encouraged to speak with their kids.
According to police, efforts to locate and arrest Acosta-Gonzalez have been unsuccessful, and he is believed to have left the state. While known youth programs affiliated with Acosta-Gonzalez were notified of the investigation, it is not known if he continues to have access to youth athletes, police said.
