The veteran infielder capped off an eight-pitch at-bat with a single to left field off Tanner Scott to secure the walk-off win. “It’s been a rough season personally for me, but the team is doing great,” Kim said through an interpreter (h/t Mark Bowman of MLB.com). “So, I was always trying to think about how I can help the team. I feel like I was preparing myself, and I feel like all that hard work and preparation paid off at this moment.” Kim has played sparsely since being activated in early August. He’s appeared in five games this month. Mauricio Dubon has been Atlanta’s primary shortstop recently.
3. Suarez decision coming today
The Reds placed Eugenio Suarez and TJ Friedl on waivers on Tuesday. It’s a 48-hour process, so we’ll find out whether another team claimed either player sometime today. Suarez launched a grand slam during the aforementioned Giants bullpen meltdown. It’s been a rough season, but he’s slugging .500 with five homers and 18 RBI in August. Suarez is owed about $2.5MM for the rest of the season. A borderline contender could fork that over to add some right-handed power. Friedl has stumbled out of regular playing time. He’s 1-for-19 this month, dropping his average to .158.
