Chelsea have three Alex Scott bids rejected by Bournemouth ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

Chelsea have had three bids turned down for England midfielder Alex Scott, with Bournemouth adamant that neither he nor any of their crown jewels will leave before 1 September.

Scott’s representatives broke off contract talks with the Cherries last month amid serious interest in the 23-year-old.

That prompted three offers from the Blues, which ranged from £62m to £68m.

But Bournemouth, who will learn their fate in the Europa League group stage draw on Friday, have emphatically reaffirmed their intention to keep Scott on the south coast this season.

Chelsea want Scott as they continue to juggle their midfield options, but sources told The i Paper the “not-for-sale” stance on Bournemouth’s star players has been clearly communicated to the players, agents and rival clubs.

Manchester City, who sold Rodri to Barcelona and are close to brokering a £47m deal with Newcastle United for Nico Gonzalez, are also interested in Scott, but are aware of the Cherries’ approach and are instead pursuing other targets.

One of those, ironically, is Enzo Fernandez, though Chelsea will not sell him without a replacement lined up.

That will not be Scott, however much speculation there is over the next week and a half.

Eli Junior Kroupi, currently out injured, is wanted by Arsenal and Liverpool, while Manchester United have made tentative enquiries this summer about Adrien Truffert as part of their wide-ranging search for a left-back.

Bournemouth’s approach is bold and partly informed by a wide-ranging analysis over the impact European football has on domestic form.

The Cherries are wary of a steep drop-off in the Premier League now they also have Europa League commitments and one of the big learnings from the data was that allowing key players to leave off the back of a successful campaign could be potentially ruinous.

The idea is to follow Wolves’ model in the 2019-20 season, who kept their big names and finished seventh in the Premier League and made the last eight of the Europa League.

Another reason for retaining all of their stars is that they want to give new boss Marco Rose a good platform to succeed.

Bournemouth made a conscious decision to do most of their business early including sending out a signal to the market on their big names, so that he could have certainty around planning for what insiders admit is going to be a challenging campaign.

With Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio undergoing a medical ahead of a season-long loan move that comes with a £12.5m option to buy, they have completed their summer business and do not expect a busy end to the transfer window.

Striker Daniel Jebbison is also staying at Bournemouth and viewed as another new addition to the squad alongside the other four signings – Elche forward Alvaro Rodriguez, Benfica defender Antonio Silva and Sevilla full-back Juanlu Sanchez.

Perhaps their most striking business, though, is that they have managed to keep hold of the likes of Scott and Kroupi.
