Hit FOX Reality Show Moves to Dangerous New Location For Season 3; Uses More Cameras Than the Super Bowl ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

FOX’s hit survival competition Extracted is coming back for another season—and the production required to capture all that wilderness drama is enormous.

FOX Entertainment Global announced Oct. 11 that season 3 of Extracted recently wrapped production at Lake Kenyir, Malaysia, where the network has built a permanent production hub for the reality competition.

According to FOX, the Malaysian operation deploys more cameras than the Super Bowl to capture the contestants’ survival challenges, decisions and emotional interactions with their families.

Now the network plans to use that massive production setup to take Extracted around the world.

FOX announced that the Lake Kenyir facility will serve as a turnkey production hub for international broadcasters looking to create localized versions of Extracted. The company will introduce the facility to international buyers during MIPCOM CANNES.

The permanent hub includes sets, a production headquarters, established workflows and experienced local crews, allowing international licensees to make their own versions of the show without having to recreate its elaborate production infrastructure from scratch.

“Extracted has all the ingredients of a universally resonant format: a powerful premise, stunning visuals, unforgettable family dynamics, and incredibly high stakes,” Prentiss Fraser, president of FOX Entertainment Global, said in a statement.

“The infrastructure we’ve built in this Malaysia hub accelerates the series’ international expansion, offering licensees the infrastructure and expertise to create their own versions more efficiently, while delivering the scale and intensity that make the show so compelling,” Fraser continued.

The location itself is also a major part of the equation. Lake Kenyir offers the kind of treacherous wilderness the series requires, including jaguars, pythons and rugged terrain, while still providing productions with access to transportation, accommodations and medical services.

Qualifying productions can also benefit from Malaysian tax incentives of up to 30 percent of production spending, according to Fox.

Extracted debuted on FOX in 2025 with a twist on the traditional survival competition.

Instead of leaving contestants completely in control of their own fate, the series sends ordinary people into the wilderness without training, supplies or contact with the outside world while their loved ones watch from a remote headquarters.

Those family members have an enormous decision to make: They can allow their contestant to keep fighting through the competition or hit the “EXTRACT” button, immediately ending the contestant’s journey—and the family’s shot at the grand prize.

FOX says Extracted has reached more than 45 million viewers across its first two seasons.

With season 3 now finished filming and FOX preparing to offer the format to broadcasters around the world, the survival competition is poised to get considerably bigger—and its Malaysian jungle may soon be hosting a lot more families willing to press their luck before somebody presses that button.
