"It has to be spent directly supporting and growing the program, and anything beyond that can only be spent on improving road safety," Dougherty said.
"We need to continue to push in our community for these kinds of things that are going to make our streets safer," one advocate said.
The city is currently holding community meetings and a survey to get public reaction to the camera plan. If approved, the cameras could be up and running by the spring of next year.
