The Georgia Bulldogs have won back-to-back SEC titles under coach Kirby Smart. But in this 12-team College Football Playoff era, the Dawgs have yet to win a national title.
Sure, they won 2-straight national championships in 2021 and 2022 in dominant fashion, but the 12-team era hasn’t been as kind. Georgia lost to Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinals in 2024 and to Ole Miss in the quarterfinals in 2025.
Meanwhile, the Big Ten has won 3 national titles in a row and looks poised to have teams in the championship race again this postseason. Can the Bulldogs reclaim their top spot?
It all starts with getting back to the Playoff. We’ll dive into that in a second by predicting every regular-season game. But first, check out the other Crystal Ball articles we’ve done thus far:
Alabama Arkansas Auburn FloridaOK, now let’s see what’s in store for the Georgia Bulldogs.
One Big Question: Is Gunner Stockton a Heisman Trophy contender?
You know you’re going to get a strong defense at Georgia. That’s been a mainstay of the Kirby Smart era and it doesn’t look to be any different this year.
Ellis Robinson IV and KJ Bolden are potential first-round picks in the secondary. Chris Cole and Raylen Wilson are solid at linebacker. Smart and his staff used the portal to bolster depth in a big way, adding guys like Gentry Williams from Oklahoma and Amaris Williams from Auburn, among others.
So the biggest question is on offense. QB Gunner Stockton took a step forward in 2025, but he’ll need to be even better in 2026. He has a decent offensive line, with Earnest Greene III holding down the left tackle spot, Drew Bobo providing experience at center and freshman Zykie Helton making a strong first impression at right guard. Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens and Dante Dowdell form a strong RB trio. The tight end position is deep. The wide receivers aren’t great, but should be fine.
It’s going to be up to Stockton to make the sum of the offense greater than its parts.
When you have a team as talented as Georgia, it’s hard to find too many holes. This is definitely nit-picking on my part, but Stockton needs to be even better as a passer.
He amassed 2,894 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 2025. He added 462 yards and 10 scores as a runner. Again, that’s fine. That’s solid, even. But Georgia has goals in 2026 that go far beyond being simply a “solid” football team.
If Smart and the Dawgs are going to get back to the apex of the college football world and lift their third national championship trophy, Stockton (and maligned OC Mike Bobo) are going to have to have their best seasons yet.
Can they get there? Let’s start breaking down Georgia’s regular season.

Here’s how I see the 2026 season playing out for the Georgia Bulldogs:
Week 1: vs. Tennessee State (W)
Kirby Smart teams might not cover the spread against FCS foes (mostly since he doesn’t seem interested in running up the score), but they always win comfortably against inferior competition. Let’s move on to Week 2.
Week 2: vs. Western Kentucky (W)
The Hilltoppers lead Conference USA by checking in at No. 86 in ESPN’s Football Power Index. They’re a solid Group of 6 program but Georgia is Georgia. (How’s that for football analysis?) The Bulldogs win easily.
Week 3: at Arkansas (W)
Ryan Silverfield has to face the Georgia Bulldogs as his first SEC opponent with the Arkansas Razorbacks. That’s not a recipe for success. Georgia keeps the train rolling with another win.
Week 4: vs. Oklahoma (W)
I like Oklahoma this year. Brent Venables has another elite defense. John Mateer should still be healthy by this point in the season. If this game was in Norman, I’d probably pick the Sooners to pull off the upset. But it isn’t. Georgia defends Sanford Stadium and pulls out a narrow victory.
Week 5: vs. Vanderbilt (W)
Vanderbilt freshman QB Jared Curtis spurned Georgia for Vandy during his recruitment. He’ll likely develop into quite a quarterback in Nashville, but the Dawgs will want to send a message in this matchup. I also think this will be a down year for Vanderbilt.
Week 6: at Alabama (W)
Smart took down Kalen DeBoer in Atlanta last season to snap a losing skid against Alabama. I expect Georgia to keep that momentum going this season, even with this game being played in Tuscaloosa. We’ve seen some regular-season thrillers from these 2 teams in years past and I believe that’ll happen again, with Georgia being on the winning side this time around.
Week 7: vs. Auburn (W)
New Auburn head coach Alex Golesh makes his first trip to Sanford Stadium as the leader of the Tigers. Though he just led USF to a stunning upset of Florida in the Swamp last season, Georgia won’t allow that to happen in Athens.
Week 8: OFF
Georgia enters the bye week 7-0 and feeling really good about its national title chances. How long will the good times last?
Week 9: vs. Florida (in Atlanta) (W)
The Bulldogs definitely benefit from this game being moved to Atlanta while the stadium in Jacksonville undergoes renovations. Georgia has won each of the last 5 Cocktail Party rivalries and 8 of the last 10. The Dawgs get the best of Florida again to extend the streak to 6 in a row on Halloween.
Week 10: at Ole Miss (L)
Oxford has become a tough place to play in recent years. Pete Golding looks poised to keep the good times going at Ole Miss. Georgia has a stout defense, but containing Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy for an entire game is next to impossible. The crowd provides plenty of noise in this matchup and the Ole Miss faithful storm the field after taking down the Dawgs once again.
Week 11: vs. Mizzou (W)
Mizzou‘s defense doesn’t have much depth, and that’ll be especially evident this late in the season. Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers don’t usually fare too well against the elite teams in the SEC (a 1-5 record against Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Alabama the past 2 years attests to that). Georgia is an SEC elite, so the Dawgs will pick up another comfortable win.
Week 12: at South Carolina (W)
Going to Williams-Brice Stadium is always a tough task. Even in down years, South Carolina fans have that place rocking. The good news is that this game is in November, so the Dawgs will get to avoid some of that crushing heat that smothers teams in August and September. Expect Georgia’s defense to force QB LaNorris Sellers into some uncharacteristic mistakes in this game.
Week 13: vs. Georgia Tech (W)
Several key pieces from last year’s Georgia Tech offense, along with OC Buster Faulkner, are now at Florida. Georgia already handled business against Florida in my projections. I am expecting this to be a bit of a down year for the Yellow Jackets, so give me Georgia to finish off an 11-1 regular season.
2026 Projection: 11-1 (8-1)
This 11-1 record is enough to get the Dawgs into the SEC Championship Game yet again. Can they make it 3 SEC titles in a row? Florida won 4-straight SEC championships from 1993 to 1996. Alabama won 3 in a row from 2014 to 2016. Georgia has won 3 of the last 4 SEC titles, but making it 3 in a row would truly be special. Also, there might not be many more SEC Championship Game opportunities if the Playoff expands to 24 teams.
12-Team Playoff Berth? Yes
You’re definitely getting into the tournament with an 11-1 record in the SEC. Even if Georgia somehow lost 70-0 to whoever it faced in Atlanta (not likely), it would still be a shoo-in to the field of 12. The difficult part for Smart and his squad will be getting past the quarterfinals this time around.
