When Is National Waffle Day 2026?

National Waffle Day falls on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, commemorating the day Cornelius Swartwout of Troy, New York, received a U.S. patent for his waffle iron in 1869.

But Swartwout didn’t actually invent the waffle—or even the first waffle iron. His innovation improved on the cumbersome cast-iron versions already in use, with a design that made it easier and safer to open, close and turn the cast-iron device without getting burned.

The breakfast favorite’s history stretches back much further than that. Versions of cakes cooked between hot metal plates date back centuries, eventually evolving into the familiar grid-patterned waffles we know today.

More than 150 years later, Swartwout’s contribution gives us a pretty good excuse to load those little squares with butter and maple syrup every Aug. 24.

Where to Score Completely Free Waffles

Here’s where you can grab a free waffle for National Waffle Day.

1. Comfort Hotels

If you’re anywhere near Santa Monica, California, this may be the National Waffle Day event to beat.

Comfort Hotels is taking over part of the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, Aug. 24, for its free Ultimate Route 66 Comfort Stop, celebrating both National Waffle Day and the 100th anniversary of Route 66.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Guests can grab warm, free waffles from a waffle food truck and customize them with toppings. There’s also a coffee bar, giveaways, commemorative swag, and an appearance from actor and Comfort brand ambassador Keegan-Michael Key.

You don’t need to be staying at a Comfort hotel to participate either. Just show up hungry.

2. Lost & Found

Houston waffle fans can score one completely free waffle on National Waffle Day—as long as they plan ahead.

Lost & Found is serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and anyone who shows up with a valid reservation can get a free waffle.

The restaurant recommends making reservations in advance, so this isn’t one to leave until you’re standing outside with maple syrup on your mind.

The Best Waffle Discounts and Breakfast Deals

Here are eight places offering delicious deals on waffles this year.

1. Huddle House

Huddle House is making National Waffle Day twice as good with a classic BOGO.

On Monday, Aug. 24, participating locations are offering a buy-one-get-one-free Golden Waffle deal. That means you can bring someone along and split the bill—or exercise your National Waffle Day right to eat both.

The Golden Waffle is Huddle House’s classic version, but customers can add toppings such as strawberries or chocolate chips for an additional charge.

2. SoBol

SoBol is doubling down on National Waffle Day with a buy-one-get-one-free Strawberry Waffle offer.

On Aug. 24, order a Strawberry Waffle and use promo code BOGOWAFFLEDAY to get a second one free. Even better, the offer works in-store, online or through the SoBol app, making this one of the easier deals on the list to redeem.

The chain’s Strawberry Waffle starts with a Belgian waffle infused with strawberries, giving fruit lovers an appropriately summery way to celebrate.

3. Mallards Southern Kitchen

Mallards Southern Kitchen is taking a considerably more substantial approach to free waffles.

On Monday, Aug. 24, order the restaurant’s Hot Chicken & Waffles, and you’ll get a second order free. The dish pairs Nashville hot chicken fingers with homemade cornbread waffles, maple syrup and rosemary-honey butter. If Nashville hot chicken isn’t your thing, you can opt for Southern fried chicken instead.

The offer is available all day for dine-in customers, with a limit of one deal per guest. It can’t be combined with other discounts, and it’s available while supplies last.

The BOGO is available at all five Mallards locations in Bloomington, Forest Lake, Inver Grove Heights and Shakopee, Minnesota, as well as Glendale/Bayshore, Wisconsin.

Considering you’re getting an entire second chicken-and-waffles meal rather than just another waffle, bringing a hungry friend seems like the obvious move.

4. BARE Blends

BARE Blends is getting in on the BOGO action, too.

On Aug. 24, customers who order the chain’s OG Mini Waffles will receive a second order free. The deal is available for National Waffle Day only and can’t be combined with other offers.

BARE Blends specializes in plant-based bowls, smoothies and other better-for-you fare, making this a nice change of pace from some of the more indulgent options on the list.

5. Waffle Love

With a name like Waffle Love, sitting out National Waffle Day really isn’t an option.

If you’re fortunate enough to be in Utah on Monday, Aug. 24, Waffle Love is offering BOGO waffles. To get the deal, customers need to mention the National Waffle Day discount at checkout, and there’s a limit of one offer per customer.

The promotion is limited to Utah locations, so fans elsewhere will unfortunately have to celebrate at full price.

6. Hampton by Hilton

If you’re traveling around National Waffle Day, don’t sleep through the hotel breakfast.

Hampton by Hilton’s famous DIY waffles are part of its complimentary hot breakfast for hotel guests, and this August there’s a new flavor in the waffle iron. The chain has introduced its first guest-created flavor, Peach Cobbler, at nearly 2,500 participating hotels across the United States and Canada.

Created by Kaylee Voight of East Lansing, Michigan, after she won Hampton’s Guest Waffle Boss competition, the limited-time waffle can be topped with peaches, oat crumble, caramel sauce and whipped cream.

Hampton says guests make an estimated 30 million waffles every year, so the brand clearly takes its waffles seriously.

7. Izkina

Izkina Restaurant and Lounge in Dallas is celebrating National Waffle Day with a deal for anyone who prefers their waffles with a side of fried chicken.

On Monday, Aug. 24, the restaurant is serving Chicken & Waffles for $15 all night. The special pairs crispy chicken with golden waffles for a considerably more substantial way to celebrate the holiday.

No promo code or complicated offer to keep track of here—just show up hungry and order the $15 special.

8. Chick-Fil-A

View this post on Instagram

This isn’t technically a National Waffle Day discount, but the timing is almost too perfect to ignore.

On Monday, Aug. 24, Chick-fil-A is launching its new Chicken & Waffles Sandwich nationwide.

The sandwich pairs a Chick-fil-A chicken filet with maple-flavored waffles, applewood-smoked bacon and honey butter, with warm syrup served on the side. Customers can choose Original, Spicy or Grilled chicken.

There are also two sizes depending on when hunger strikes. A smaller breakfast version is served through 10:30 a.m., while a larger entrée version is available from 10:30 a.m. through closing.

And for anyone who wants to cut straight to the reason we’re all here, the waffles and syrup will also be available individually while supplies last. No discount required. Launching waffles nationwide on National Waffle Day earns you a spot on the list.

How to Celebrate National Waffle Day at Home

Of course, you don’t need to leave home—or wait in a crowded breakfast restaurant—to celebrate National Waffle Day.

If you’ve got a waffle iron collecting dust in a cabinet, Aug. 24 is a pretty good excuse to pull it out. Classic butter and maple syrup will always work, but National Waffle Day practically begs for a topping bar or new recipe.

Put out fresh berries, bananas, whipped cream, chocolate chips, toasted nuts and a few different syrups, and let everyone build their own. For a savory version, fried chicken is the obvious choice, but bacon, eggs, cheese and even hot honey can easily turn waffles into breakfast for dinner.

And don’t overlook the freezer aisle. A frozen waffle toasted until extra crisp can handle many of the same toppings without requiring you to mix a drop of batter.

After all, National Waffle Day isn’t really about how much work you put into breakfast. It’s about those little indentations collecting all the yummy goodness and delivering with every bite.
