Gilbert O’Sullivan is celebrating six decades in music with a brand-new album.
The Irish singer-songwriter announced On The Record, his 21st studio album, arriving Nov. 6 via BMG. The 13-track collection is led by the new single “Growing Old Disgracefully,” which is available now.
The new music comes 54 years after O’Sullivan scored his first No. 1 hit in the United States with “Alone Again (Naturally),” the 1972 smash that spent six nonconsecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.

On The Record was produced by Andy Wright, continuing the partnership behind O’Sullivan’s recent albums Driven and Songbook. O’Sullivan recorded the new collection at Eastcote Studios in London with the same group of musicians he has worked with on his recent projects.
Remarkably, they recorded all 13 songs in just five days.
“We have the same musicians. They know how I work,” O’Sullivan explained. “I play the song to them on the piano, we rehearse it a few times, and then we do a take.”
The 79-year-old musician added that there was “no rocket science involved,” revealing that the group completed the entire 13-track album during those five days.
Among the new songs are “It’s Me,” “No Place Like Home” and lead single “Growing Old Disgracefully.” O’Sullivan also teamed up with The Corrs singer Andrea Corr for the new duet “Is That You?”

O’Sullivan’s new album arrives during his 60 Years in Music celebrations, which also include an extensive tour of the U.K. and Ireland this fall.
It marks the latest chapter in a career that took off internationally in the early 1970s. After breaking through with “Nothing Rhymed,” O’Sullivan became a major star with “Alone Again (Naturally),” followed by hits including “Clair” and “Get Down.” His career has earned him three Grammy nominations and three Ivor Novello Awards.
But even after six decades, O’Sullivan says songwriting remains at the heart of what he does.
“Daring to be different was the key for me,” he said. “The writing has never stopped being the most important thing.”
And when asked what keeps him inspired after all these years, O’Sullivan had a simple explanation: his love of music.
“You hear the chords of Burt Bacharach? You want that,” he said, adding that musicians are able to keep creating “because we love what we hear.”
On The Record will be released Nov. 6. “Growing Old Disgracefully” is out now.
