2026 PAN PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
August 12-15, 2026 Irvine, California William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center LCM (50 meters) Meet Central Psych Sheets Live Results Live Stream (USA Swimming YouTube)Double Olympic medalist Emma Weyant was named as the flagbearer for the U.S. at the opening ceremony for the Pan Pacific Championships, which kicked off with the open water events on Monday. The pool swimming portion of the meet is taking place in Irvine, California, in the same pool as U.S. nationals were held two weeks ago.
Weyant is one of several decorated athletes to have the honour of carrying the flag, with Australia’s 2025 50 free world champion Meg Harris, Canada’s 2024 200 IM world champion Finlay Knox, and New Zealand’s 2024 world champion Lewis Clareburt also nominated for their respective nations.
Weyant is entered in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 400 free for team USA this week. She won silver at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the first of those events, touching seven tenths of a second behind Yui Ohashi in 4:32.68, then won bronze at the 2022 World Championships 12 months later.
She missed the 2023 World Championships team, but won bronze in the 400 IM at the 2024 Olympics. Her Pan Pacific Championships experience is more limited, having been 17 years old the last time they were held in 2018.
She was at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Suva that year, winning gold in the 400 IM and bronze in the 800 free – a race won by Lani Pallister, who will be a medal threat in Irvine this week.
Kayla Sanchez has been chosen as the Philippines flag bearer. The UBCT Thunderbirds swimmer represented Canada until changing allegiance to the country of her parents in the summer of 2022.
Australian flag bearer Harris is coming off winning six gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, including the sprint freestyle double. She won gold in the 50 free at the 2025 World Championships, silver at the 2024 Olympic Games, and bronze at the 2022 World Championships in the 50 free, but will have recent world record holders Kate Douglass and Gretchen Walsh to contend with here.
Tomoyuki Matsushita, the World Championships silver medalist in the 400 IM from last summer, was chosen to represent Japan, with 100 breaststroke national record holder Qianting Tang, who has been a feature on the Chinese team for the last five years and won 100 breaststroke gold at the 2024 World Championships, was chosen for China.

Far more were present at the opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, including Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh, South Africa’s Chad le Clos, and Australia’s Cate Campbell.
