ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District is working to figure out how to handle security for the upcoming school year, which starts in less than 30 days.
The district held an open forum on Tuesday on the safety plan. Officials are reviewing four possible options.
Maintain the existing structure with school security officers and 911 in case of emergencies, with no officers during response or arrival. Rochester Police Department officers present at the beginning and end of the school day. Allow private security on campus. Place eight officers and one supervisor throughout the entire school day.The administration recommends option two.
The district’s operating officer says this is not about discipline, but handling general first response for crisis and emergencies.
No official decision was made Tuesday. Superintendent Eric Jay Rosser said with the new school year less than a month away, students can expect to see officers in schools while the district evaluates next steps.
