The British singer-songwriter, born David Jackson, started learning instruments and getting into music at a young age, and at 18, he won a scholarship to attend the prestigious London's Royal Academy of Music in Londson to study musical composition.
In the late 1970s, Jackson finally found his sound. He released the debut album Look Sharp! in early 1979. The year before, Jackson dropped the first few singles from the record, including "Is She Really Going Out with Him?"
That year, a writer at the New York Times included the album on their list of the top 10 pop albums of 1979, calling it "power pop at its refreshing best." Meanwhile, the lead single broke into the Top 20 on U.K. charts and the Top 30 in the U.S. In total, it spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
Unbeknownst to Jackson at the time, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" would become a new wave classic, still beloved decades after its release.
Nowadays, Jackson is still busy touring and making music, with his 22nd studio album Hope and Fury coming out in April 2026.
