BUELLTON, Calif. (KEYT) - Members of Team Chumash, a volunteer group from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation, will spend the morning of Aug. 10 volunteering at Shepherd Giving Farm, located west of Buellton.

Volunteers will plant new crops, weed and harvest produce including tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and ambrosia cantaloupes.

Shepherd Giving Farm is the newest program launched by Veggie Rescue, a non-profit organization founded in 2010 to rescue surplus fresh food and deliver it free of charge across Santa Barbara County. All produce harvested during the event will go directly to local non-profit partners that serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation and Veggie Rescue both have headquarters in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Over their 16-year partnership, support from the Chumash Foundation has included providing operational grants, sponsoring fundraising events, and donating and serving food at Veggie Rescue events.
