A 25-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood Saturday night.
The driver accused of striking and killing her tried to flee the scene multiple times, crashing two more times before fleeing inside a residence, where he was taken into custody.
According to Chicago police, the victim in the case was trying to walk between two parked cars in the 1400 block of West Irving Park Road at approximately 9:22 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a westbound driver on the roadway.
Police say the driver attempted to flee the scene driving westbound on West Irving Park Road, and ultimately he struck an SUV, which caused a chain reaction impacting another sedan.
The driver of the SUV attempted to restrain the hit-and-run driver, but that individual got back into his car and attempted to flee again, this time striking a tree before running from the scene on foot.
Police were informed the man had run inside a building in the 4000 block of North Ashland, and were able to take him into custody, according to authorities.
Charges are pending against the driver in the case.
The 25-year-old woman’s identity has not yet been released, according to authorities.
Neither of the other drivers in the incident required medical attention, police said.
