Disney shared the latest update on its Asteria neighborhood under construction in Pittsboro on Wednesday, revealing the concept design and vision for residents’ entrance into the community.
The behemoth entertainment company shared the latest post on its blog publicizing the different details of the Storyliving by Disney neighborhood, posting the “first look” at Asteria’s welcome sign and entry road into the neighborhood of around 4,000 homes. Describing it at a “warm Carolina welcome,” the stone signage will be made out of materials gathered from the site and features a “moon gate” that stretches above the sidewalk. The blog post said the arched gateway — which developers plan to build by dry stacking the rocks instead of using mortar — aims to create a subtle reveal to the community that “frames the landscape beyond.”

The Asteria project, which was announced in Dec. 2023, is the second Storyliving by Disney venture as the theme park giant continues to add real estate development to its company portfolio. The development on roughly 1,500 acres east of downtown Pittsboro fits within the broader master-planned Chatham Park community getting built out by the Preston Development Company, which projects to raise the town’s smaller population by the tens-of-thousands when completed. Construction at the site is being led by DMB Development, a real estate company based in Scottsdale, Ariz., and began in June 2025.
The entrance to Asteria will eventually lead residents and visitors to a mix of single-family homes, condos, apartments in the neighborhood, with some units advertised as reserved for adults 55+. The Asteria website says it plans to begin local home sales in the fall of 2027. As of Wednesday, no pricing has been publicly shared by Storyliving by Disney or its realtor partners.
Wednesday’s update is the latest shared by Disney so far in 2026 about Asteria. In April, the company unveiled some of the amenities for its Second Star Club, which residents can become members of. The social campus will offer a central green for outdoor activities, surrounded by club buildings that offer a wellness center, pool, restaurant, event pavilion and creative studios. Those buildings will have Peter Pan-inspired themes, as will the reserve-able, five-bedroom home called the Lost Key Cottage.
