A Sugar Grove man was arrested for driving under the influence in connection with a crash that killed two adults and a 4-year-old girl in Kendall County, authorities said.
Carson Rehkopf, 22, was charged with six counts of aggravated DUI involving death, two counts of aggravated DUI involving great bodily harm and multiple traffic offenses.
Authorities said at around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Rehkopf was driving a pickup truck southbound on Illinois Route 71 when he entered the northbound lanes to pass multiple vehicles and struck an SUV head-on. A total of four vehicles were involved, the Illinois State Police said.
A passenger in the SUV, Amy Witter, 38, of Des Moines, Iowa, died at the scene. James Witter, a 65-year-old Des Moines resident, and a 4-year-old girl from Des Moines were transported to area hospitals, where they later died.
A fourth person in the SUV sustained injuries, as did Rehkopf.
The deaths remained under investigation as of Monday.
Rehkopf remained in custody at the Kendall County Jail pending his first court appearance.
