Delaware high school state qualifier David Tomlin has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Saint Joe’s College in Maine. First, I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for guiding me through this journey. Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today. A huge thank you to my family, especially my parents for their unconditional love and support, and my brother Anthony. I could not have done any of this without my coaches, Zach at DSA, and Coach Chip and Danny at Salesianum! I also want to shoutout coach Cindy that has guided me since the start of my career. I want to thank my teammates and friends for always being there for me and supporting me through this journey. Finally I want to give a big thank you to Coach Fr. Cartwright for allowing me to have this incredible opportunity to swim at the next level. GO MONKS!!
A rising senior at Salesianum School in Wilmington, Tomlin has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Diamond State Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in sprint free, breast, fly, and IM.
Tomlin is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw him drop over seven seconds in the 200 free, five seconds in the 200 IM, three seconds in the 100 breast and 100 fly, and almost two seconds in the 100 free. He ended the season with times of 52.01/1:53.98 in the 100/200 free, 57.27 in the 1100 fly, 1:06.94 in the 100 breast, and 2:09.59 in the 200 IM.
On the high school scene, Tomlin qualified and competed at the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) State Championships for the first time this February, where he placed 22nd in the 100 fly with his current PB.

The men’s team did not have any swimmers compete in 2025-26, and they only had one competitor in 2024-25. In rebuilding mode, the school is welcoming one freshman, sprint freestyler Michael Nielsen, this fall, with Tomlin the first publicized commit for the fall of 2027 so far.
Tomlin’s current best times in all of his primary events would have qualified for ‘A’ finals at the GNAC Championships this past season, and he still has two full seasons of training ahead before even lining up at his first-ever conference meet.
