Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1979, Momoa (whose full name is Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa) was raised by his mother in Norwalk, Iowa, following his parents' divorce. After graduating from Norwalk High School, the then-would-be actor moved back to Hawaii, where he started a modeling career.
