Aubrey Hadley, 12, Ventana Canyon Swim Team (AZ): Hadley went six-for-six in personal best times at last weekend’s Arizona State Championships, winning four events in the girls’ 11-12 age group. In the 50 free, after breaking 29 for the first tie in the prelims (28.50), the Ventana Canyon Swim Team product put up a time of 27.93, ranking her 4th this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group. Hadley also went 1:01.26 in the 100 free, dropping over a second off her PB to rank 16th in the 11-12 age group this season, and set additional best times in the 200 free (2:15.86), 50 back (33.46), 50 fly (31.15) and 100 fly (1:09.18).
Leo Liu, 12, Rose Bowl Aquatics (CA): Liu established six new best times at the Southern California Swimming Summer Age Group Championships last weekend in Walnut, Calif., highlighted by his swims in the breaststroke events. In the 50 breast, Liu dropped nearly a second off his PB in the prelims, clocking 32.20, and then in the final, broke 32 seconds for the first time in 31.95. That performance rockets him up to 6th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group and 1st this season by nearly a full second. He also clocked 1:10.55 in the 100 breast to rank 17th all-time and 1st this season by over two and a half seconds, and Liu added bests in the 50 free (28.52), 100 free (1:02.91), 50 fly (31.85) and 200 IM (2:38.77).
Emma Zhang, 10, X-Cel Swimming (NJ): Zhang won five events and set seven new best times at the New Jersey Swimming LC Gold Championships in Piscataway, moving into the top five in the seasonal rankings in the girls’ breaststroke events. Zhang put up a time of 1:25.94 in the 100 breast to rank 4th this season in the girls’ 10 and under age group, while her time of 38.68 in the 50 breast ranks 5th this season. The X-Cel Swimming product also set new best times in the 100 free (1:09.23), 200 free (2:26.39), 100 back (1:18.22) and 50 fly (37.20).
Daniel Bunge, 13, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics (VA): Bunge had a sensational swim in the 100 fly during last week’s NCSA Summer Championships in Indianapolis, clocking 56.41 to crack the 57-second barrier for the first time and rank 3rd all-time among 13-year-olds. The swim also moves him into a time for 32nd all-time in the 13-14 age group. Bunge also set bests in the 200 IM (2:09.94) and 200 free (1:56.26) that rank 5th and 6th respectively among 13-year-olds all-time and 82 and 89th all-time in the 13-14 age group. Notably, in the 200 free, he threw down a 1:54.65 split on the NOVA of Virginia 800 free relay, nearly two seconds under his flat start time.
Kennedy Brooks, 15, Kentucky Aquatics (KY): Brooks had a standout showing last weekend at NCSAs, collecting three individual titles while establishing new best times in six events. Most notably, she fired off a time of 28.82 en route to winning the girls’ 50 back, ranking her 20th all-time among 15-year-olds and 2nd this season. In the 100 back, her winning time of 1:00.91 knocked a second off her PB from the prelims to rank her 32nd all-time in the 15-16 age group, 19th all-time among 15-year-olds and 1st this season. She also moved to 6th this season among 15-year-olds in the 50 free (26.05), 9th in the 100 free (57.26), 11th in the 100 fly (1:01.97) and 15th in the 50 fly (27.97).
