July 28 – August 1, 2026 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 50 meters (LCM) SwimSwam Preview Live ResultsThe 2026 Central American & Caribbean Games taking place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic got off to a roaring start, with a remarkable nine meet benchmarks biting the dust through just the first two days of competition.
Making her mark early on was Colombia’s Sirena Rowe, with the 28-year-old winning the women’s 50m freestyle in a new meet record of 24.89.
The former NC State swimmer’s time represented the sole outing of the pack to clear the 25-second barrier, erasing countrywoman Isabella Arcila‘s former Games record of 25.11 established in 2018.
Mexico’s Celia Pulido was next to the wall in 25.35, as El Salvador’s Maria Spadoni rounded out the podium in 25.42.
Arcila’s time mentioned above sat as the Colombian national record until Rowe ripped her lifetime best to now own the title as fastest Colombian woman in history and first-ever under the 25-second threshold.
The other two Games records which went down on the women’s side were both courtesy of Kristen Romano, with the Puerto Rican standout claiming the top spot in both the 200m IM and 400m IM events, posting new national records as well.
In the former, Romano, who used to race for the Ohio State Buckeyes, stopped the clock at a time of 2:12.16 to easily grab the gold, beating her competitors by well over two seconds.
Romano owned the former meet mark at the 2:13.74 she notched three years ago, so she hacked a significant amount of time off that to earn the gold here and set a new national standard.
The 400m IM saw Romano clinch the Games title in a swift outing of 4:44.87 for her 2nd national record.
That overtook her former standard of 4:45.47 also logged in 2023, with her time here crushing the field by over nine seconds.
Romano enters this year’s CAC Games already with a big resume behind her. She earned three medals at the 2018 edition in Barranquilla, then upgraded to four medals at the 2023 edition in San Salvador.
Highlights on the men’s side of the house through the first two days included Raekwon Noel of Guyana, also of the Indiana University Hoosiers, ripping a lifetime best and Games Record of 1:59.35 in the 200m IM.
That checked in as the first-ever sub-2:00 performance in Games history, overwriting the mark of 2:00.97 Erick Gordillo put on the books in 2023.
Noel also established a new Games record of 1:56.82 en route to taking the men’s 200m fly by storm, missing his lifetime best by only .20 in the process.
He split 26.70/54.98/1:26.19/1:56.82 to get the job done, getting to the wall with time to spare ahead of Venezuela’s Manuel Diaz who settled for silver in 1:58.07.
Two athletes touched simultaneously for the bronze medal, with Mexico’s Rafael Arizpe hitting 1:58.77 alongside Puerto Rico’s Andres Brooks.
Of note, Olympian Dylan Carter of Trinidad & Tobago dove in for two events thus far at these Games, one individual and one relay.
In the former, 30-year-old Carter found himself off the men’s 50m freestyle podium, settling for the 4th place position in 22.61. He owns the meet mark of 21.87 put up in 2023.
Instead, it was teammate Nikoli Blackman who registered the top time in the splash n’ dash, delivering 21.98 to win the event.
Carter also appeared in the TTO men’s gold medal winning and record-setting 4x100m free relay.
Along with teammates Liam Carrington, Zerek Wilson and Blackman, the squad produced an effort of 3:16.91 to hack over a second off the former meet standard of 3:18.60 Mexico established six years ago.
Additional Meet Records
Mexico’s Paulo Strehlke notched a time of 15:03.87 to win the men’s 1500m freestyle, blasting away the former meet record of 15:18.23 countryman Ricardo Vargas nabbed in 2018. The men’s 4x200m free relay from Mexico also claimed a new Games record, touching in 7:15.60 to rip apart the former meet record of 7:22.94 established in 2023. The men’s 400m IM saw Erick Gordillo of Guatemala turn in the time top, with his 4:17.68 good enough for gold.
