First, South Africa Olympic champion Chad le Clos capped off his 2026 Games campaign with an additional medal, helping his nation earn bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.
That performance gave le Clos his remarkable 21st Commonwealth Games medal, further separating himself as the all-time winningest athlete ever.
We reported prior to the competition that 34-year-old le Clos was on the brink of establishing this record, entering the meet with a remarkable 18 Commonwealth Games medals since 2010. That shared the same total for a male with shooters Phillip Adams of Australia and Mick Gault of England.
However, over the course of his events, he bumped that total up to 21, earning mixed medley relay silver and men’s 4x100m free relay bronze in addition to the relay mentioned above.
The other hardware accomplishment came at the hands of 28-year-old Kyle Chalmers of Australia, with the speedster surpassing fellow Olympic icon Ian Thorpe as the most decorated Aussie male swimmer across his Commonwealth Games career.
Thorpe previously held the record, courtesy of his 10 golds across Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and Manchester in 2002. As for Chalmers, the new father headed to his third Commonwealth Games looking to add to his current tally of nine medals, with seven of them golden.
Chalmers collected 100m free bronze, 50m fly gold, and gold in both the mixed and men’s 4x100m freestyle relay to bring his total Commonwealth Games medal count to 12, surpassing Thorpe.
