LOMPOC, Calif. (KEYT) - The show will officially go on at the 100-year-old Lompoc Theatre thanks to a philanthropic gift of $6 million.

This is the largest singular, private donation the theater has ever received.

Santa Barbara’s own Cheryl Goldberg, a technology executive and arts philanthropist continues to carry out her late husband’s legacy, and this is her latest benefaction.

After a recent personal tour of the Lompoc Theatre, which first opened in 1927 and rested dormant for over 20 years, Goldberg is making its long anticipated re-opening an absolute certainty.

Her philanthropic donation in the amount of $6 million kicks the theater’s restoration project into high gear.

In 2027, the theater’s centennial season will begin in what they call the black box configuration — an 80-seat venue enclosed within the stage itself.

The black box design will host music performances, seminars, and other intimate performances while the restoration continues on the rest of the theater.

The developer “19-6” who recently updated Santa Barbara’s Granada Theater will create an elegant, 450-seat auditorium where large-scale productions can perform with state-of-the-art lights, sound, and projection.

The historic land use office — one of California’s oldest commercial buildings — will be moved to the front the property and converted into a movie house.

Directors of the theater and community leaders are bursting at the seams with excitement and gratitude to Cheryl Goldberg for her gift.

They say this theater will revitalize the heart of Lompoc’s downtown and bring the arts communities of north and south Santa Barbara county together in cutting-edge ways.
