Good grief! A new Peanuts animated special is on its way to Apple TV, but it features some bad news for its superstar star pooch: Snoopy’s iconic red doghouse is sold!
In Billboard‘s exclusive clip from Snoopy Presents: There’s No Place Like Home, Snoopy, the world-famous beagle reflects on the various adventures he’s had with his beloved home. They include — of course — his preference for sleeping on top of its roof, his airborne battles against his nemesis Red Baron, meeting best bird bud Woodstock and much, much more. That is, until the doghouse vanishes as it’s accidentally sold and Snoopy lets out a heartbreaking yowl.
The clip also includes Billboard‘s premiere of the original song “Home, Where Your Heart Found Me” by singer-songwriter Allen Stone, with the tune playing as Snoopy recalls the good times he had at home.
“A big old house or a tin-roofed shed, but home is where your heart can rest/ Chandeliers or velvet drapes/ Oh, big old table lamps and porcelain plates/ I don’t care how you fill your space, you ain’t home until your heart feels safe,” Stone sings on the sweet, upbeat tune set to the action on the screen. “Home’s not a house, it’s a feeling inside/ Some say it’s over the rainbow, deep inside of your dreams/ But lucky for me, I’m where I’m supposed to be/ Ooh home, where your heart found me.”
The musician opened up to Billboard about how excited he was to write a new song for such a beloved franchise. “It was an absolute joy and milestone for me to create an original tune for such an iconic series. I grew up with Peanuts. Now with kids of my own, I was thrilled at the opportunity to make some music for a show I loved and will now enjoy with my family,” Stone shares. “I really wanted to create something that paid respect to the lineage of music that Peanuts has cemented through the years. [Peanuts composer] Vince Guaraldi was and is a legend, and hopefully Peanuts fans feel the respect for his craft in the soundtrack of this new production.”
Though Snoopy’s home is accidentally sold during a yard sale, the synopsis for Snoopy Presents: There’s No Place Like Home, Snoopy explains that the pooch’s heartbreak over the loss of his house leads Charlie Brown to take his dog “on an adventure to find his old doghouse, and along the way, they learn what makes a house truly a home.”
The special begins streaming on on Apple TV Friday, July 31.
