As we prepare for the 2nd day of action in Irvine at the US National Championships, the women’s 200 breast prelims will not feature 17-year-old Mia Su, a 2027 Cal commit out of Santa Clara Swim Club. She was seeded 6th on the pre-meet psych sheet with a 2:28.82.
Su was the only top 24 scratch in the event, which moves 18-year-old and future Florida Gator Maddie Moreth into the circle seeded heats in the prelims of the 200 breast.
The women’s 200 free saw some action in the scratch department as well, as both Emily Brown and Teagan O’Dell will not race the 200 free on day 2. Brown was seeded 12th in 1:59.77, one of 15 entrants under the 2:00 barrier. O’Dell sat in a tie for 16th at 2:00.02, just outside of cracking that 2:00 mark.
Brown will instead shift her focus to the 200 backstroke, where she is seeded 26th on the psych sheet in 2:12.96, and she will race in the 6th of the nine prelim heats. O’Dell will also race the 200 backstroke, where she is seeded 9th overall with a time of 2:08.57.
On the men’s side, David Kovacs, the pre-meet 12th seed in the 200 back, will not race the event, moving Alabama’s Cole Witmer into the circle-seeded heats. In the men’s 50 fly, Ben Scholl, the 15th seed, has chosen to scratch the event, paving the way for Logan Walker to race in the circle-seeded heats.
