They achieved that without Australian record holder Kaylee McKeown on the leadoff leg, with only Matt Temple returning from the record-setting relay from Birmingham. He was 0.84 seconds faster on his split tonight, the exact margin between the two records as the other three swimmers ended up as a wash.

Australia did not lead until late on in the fly leg, with early leaders South Africa putting a male swimmer on the first two legs in this race. Temple gave Harris a lead of 0.73 seconds, which she extended to 2.15 seconds at the finish.
Their relay tonight featured individual champions on three of the four legs, with Temple being the one exception after placing 2nd by just 0.01 seconds in the men’s 100 fly.
Australia’s time tonight slots in as the #23 performance in history, and the sixth-fastest by an Australian team. The Australian record stands at 3:38.76 from the 2024 Olympic final.
Placing 3rd tonight, host nation Scotland won its first relay medal of the week in a new Scottish record of 3:43.70 to a huge reception from the crowd. They hacked nearly five seconds off their previous standard of 3:48.55, set four years ago, and finished ahead of England in a Commonwealth Games relay for the first time since the men’s 4×200 free relay in 2014.
Matt Ward won his first Commonwealth medal after leading off in 53.55, while women’s 100 breast champion Angharad Evans split 1:04.52 on the second leg. Keanna MacInnes clocked 57.60 on fly, with Duncan Scott overhauling England and Canada on the anchor with a 48.03 split.
