Australia set their second relay Commonwealth Games record in two days with a dominant swim in the mixed 4×100 free relay tonight. Their time of 3:19.36 sliced nearly two seconds off the previous mark from the 2022 Games and beat the field by over four seconds tonight.
Flynn Southam got them off to a great start with a 47.29 leadoff, a second and a half faster than William Yang‘s 48.80 from the 2022 record. That is his second-fastest swim ever, behind only his 47.09 leadoff and Games record from the 4×100 free relay last night.
Kyle Chalmers was slightly slower than his 47.55 split from four years ago with a 47.62 on the second leg tonight. Shayna Jack (52.42) and Meg Harris (52.03) were around two tenths of a second each faster than Mollie O’Callaghan (52.62) and Emma McKeon (52.21).

It is also the #3 swim in world history, with Australia holding the #2, #3, and #4 swims ever, although World Aquatics have announced they are dropping the event from the World Championships schedule going forward.
