Both Arlen and the world have changed monumentally in the years away from our screens. And Bobby has arguably undergone the most change. When the show came back in 2025, we were immediately informed that Bobby was happily pursuing his passion in life: Cooking. Choosing to forgo college, he's become a successful restaurateur, running perhaps the most unique fusion concept in history: German and Japanese."Everybody wanted to protect the character, but nobody more than me," Adlon explains about her anticipation for revisiting Bobby. "Because he is me. I am one with Bobby. I am the 'Bobby Lama.' So, at a certain point, just making a choice, and having it be so that I feel good about doing it, and just not feeling insecure. Like, 'Are they gonna do something engineering-wise in the studio' or something. Just having to make a choice and feeling secure enough to go there, it's good.""It's a nuance, and it's a subtlety, but it's a richness of life," she continues. "It's like seeing your kids grow up. You don't want to. You can't believe that they're adults. But guess what? We all did it. I mean, I gestated as Bobby three times, three pregnancies. And now they're all grown up and they're all out of the house. So the timing's pretty perfect."Related: ‘King of the Hill’s Toby Huss Breaks Silence on Taking Over Dale Gribble After Johnny Hardwick’s Death (Exclusive)

"I think it's so sweet," Adlon says of the relationship. "I've run across a few couples in my life who have been together since school, and it's really massive. You're going through life together, but they feel very fresh and exciting. And that's the way young people should be: Full of ideas. You see them pushing each other through in a way that you don't really see a lot of that in animation. [There's just a] natural way that they have become who they are right now. It's very special, and it's extremely moving and cool at the same time, because it's grounded and it really resonates."To say King of the Hill's return was met with praise would be an understatement. The revival has been lauded by longtime fans and critics alike, with many saying the writing and subject material is up there with any typical fare from the original run. Hulu picked up the show for another season, which dropped July 20. And Adlon even earned an Emmy nomination for her work as Bobby last year. It's a full-circle moment for the 60-year-old, considering she had won the same award almost 25 years ago for one of the show's most infamous episodes, "Bobby Goes Nuts.""The nomination is a win to me," she says about the accolade. "And so I'm good. And I feel like it's great validation for anything of any insecurity I might have felt going into aging Bobby up and really owning it, making a decision. It's massive for me."
