Another day, another Chicago Bears training camp preview. And if you haven’t gotten around to reading about the Bears’ cornerbacks, there is still time to change that. Plus, you can bone up on the quarterbacks if your heart so desires.
Our countdown to Week 1 of the NFL season continues:We are 5️⃣3️⃣ days from the Bears kicking off the 2026 regular season vs. the Panthers. I hope we get a healthy and productive T.J. Edwards this year.[image or embed]
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@bn-bears.bsky.social) July 22, 2026 at 7:48 AM T.J. Edwards received some votes from NFL coaches, executives, and scouts in ESPN’s poll trying to rank the league’s best off-ball linebackers. An injury-shortened 2025 was disappointing for Edwards, who was solid in 2023 (155 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 8 tackles-for-loss) and 2024 (career-best 4 sacks and 12 TFLs to go with 129 total tackles). I’m hoping that an offseason of getting healthy will get Edwards back to a place where he was in 2023.THE BN BEARS PODCAST LIVES HERE: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Remembering some other linebackers who wore No. 53 for the Bears over the years: Nick Roach (2007-12), Warrick Holdman (1999-2003), Nicholas Morrow (2022), and John Timu (2015-17). Did you know Khalil Mack‘s younger brother, Ledarius, wore No. 53 in Chicago? I remember Lil’ Mack playing for the Bears, but I don’t think I could have guessed his number if you put me on the spot. Bears LB T.J. Edwards. © David Banks-Imagn Images I don’t know why Clay Matthews has beef with Bears fans. After all, I don’t recall any Bears fans going on the NFL Draft stage with a purported message from the United States president proclaiming that the Bears suck. But I love the anecdote here with the former Green Bay Packers star getting the business from a U.S. Postal Service employee after Chicago beat Green Bay in the playoffs:Clay Matthews still has beef with Bears fans pic.twitter.com/RNh3igNQ2L
— Bussin' With The Boys (@BussinWTB) July 21, 2026 Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Chicago football fans from a swift clapback against the Packers or their fans. Or whatever the USPS creed says (or doesn’t say). Over at Bears Wire, a ranking of the NFL’s 20 best quarterbacks. As you might expect, Caleb Williams checks in high on the list … and ahead of Packers QB Jordan Love. Browsing through the list made me realize the Bears will face the following top quarterbacks: Josh Allen (Bills, Week 15), Drake Maye (Patriots, Week 7), Jared Goff (Lions, Thanksgiving in Week 12 and again in Week 17), Jordan Love (Packers, Week 5 and 16), Baker Mayfield (Bucs, Week 9 on Sunday Night Football), Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars Week 13), Jalen Hurts (Eagles, Week 3 on Monday Night Football), and Bryce Young (Panthers, Week 1). Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen has his work cut out for him this year. ICYMI: The Carolina Panthers are already dealing with some injury issues. This is pertinent to us because the Panthers are the Bears’ Week 1 opponent. The early reviews of Northwestern’s new football stadium are in. Sigh. I hate how they make me feel envious of a college football team’s new digs:Ryan Field is so unique. This stadium looks like a new NFL stadium build. Most college teams don’t get new stadiums. Everyone just upgrades or builds up higher. So it makes this project unique. t.co/YnIFn1WVXJ
— Geoff Schwartz (@geoffschwartz) July 21, 2026In 1925, Northwestern briefly dreamed of building one of the largest stadiums in the nation, then did nothign of the sort.A century later, they've instead built possibly one of the nation’s best.A column from my visit to new Ryan Field today: t.co/rLyX1YUQoj
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) July 21, 2026 While the Bears putz around going back and forth between Hammond, Ind., and suburban Arlington Heights, Northwestern — thanks to some financial help from Bears minority owner Pat Ryan — has an $875 million stadium project up and ready to roll for the 2026 college football season. Given the ancillary things the Bears want to go with their stadium, I’m not sure they could have built as quickly … but they sure as heck should be further along in the process than they are now.FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
After losing Game 1 of their series with the Detroit Tigers in extra innings, the Chicago Cubs rallied by scoring six runs in the bottom of the first in what turned into an absolute blowout at Wrigley Field. You can watch the highlights here. I am very much looking forward to the Caleb Wilson Era of Chicago Bulls basketball. The rookie made the 2026 NBA Summer League first team after averaging 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Wilson shot 50 percent (!) from the field and 41.9 percent from three-point range. I’d say these are well-deserved honors.
