European Junior Championships finalist Levente Varga has announced his verbal commitment to swim at Pennsylvania State University beginning in the fall of 2028, marking the first publicized commitment in the university’s class of 2032. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

Varga hails from Budapest, Hungary, where he attends Bessenyei Gyorgy Gimnazium, trains year-round with Kobanya Sport Club, and specializes in IM and distance freestyle.
The majority of Varga’s current best times in long course meters stem from the MVM Ifjúsági Úszó Országos Bajnokság meet in May, where he clocked 2:05.80 in the 200 IM, 4:25.27 in the 400 IM, and 4:01.69 in the 400 free. His personal bests in the 200 free (1:59.28) and 1500 free (15:56.45) are a bit outdated, set in mid-2025; it appears he has not swum those races at a taper meet in over a year.
In short course meters, Varga boasts PBs of 2:06.90 and 4:19.59 in the 200 and 400 IM, and 1:53.33, 3:53.22, and 15:28.98 in the 200, 400, and 1500 free, all set this past season in November and December.
Most recently, Varga made his international debut at the European Junior Championships (LCM) last month, where he finished sixth in the 400 IM (4:26.34) and 33rd in the 200 IM (2:06.70).

Varga’s converted time in the 1500 free would have already placed 18th in the timed final of the 1650 free at the meet, putting him in scoring range with three full seasons of training to go before he even lines up for the Nittany Lions at his first conference meet. This season, it took times of 1:46.36 and 3:49.22 to score in the 200 and 400 IM, and 1:35.63 and 4:21.99 in the 200 and 500 free, events where Varga’s current bests fall just outside the cutoff.
