New week, and new moves, Bulls fans!
The NBA offseason may be quiet, but it’s still very much alive. Last night, three teams made moves big enough to be worth talking about, involving a former No. 1 overall pick, a promising young player, and a former All-Defensive Team selection. How do those moves change the landscape of the NBA, and more importantly, what do they mean for the Chicago Bulls?
We’ll also recap the NBA Summer League Championship, and honestly, it turned out to be a pretty good game.

Golden State Warriors via @NBA Summer League on X Yesterday, the Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, and Oklahoma City Thunder agreed to a three-team trade that saw 2025 NBA Champion Lu Dort, second-year guard Ryan Nembhard, 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher, and three second-round picks all change hands. Starting with the Oklahoma City Thunder, they traded away Lu Dort, who was on an expiring contract, for three second-round picks. Everyone knew the Thunder needed to shed salary this offseason to get out of the second apron, but instead of just letting Dort walk for nothing, they picked up his team option, turned him into three future assets, and created a $17 million trade exception. — Bobby Marks (@BobbyMarks42) July 19, 2026 As for the Atlanta Hawks, they’ve used this offseason, much like last summer, to position themselves as legitimate competitors in the Eastern Conference. For the price of Zaccharie Risacher and four second-round picks, they’ve brought in Aaron Wiggins, Lu Dort, Ryan Nembhard, Devin Carter, and one second-round pick. The best part for Atlanta is that they haven’t locked themselves into this core long term either, they’re still projected to have more than $40 million in cap space next summer. I do think they gave up on Zaccharie Risacher a little too early. He was a victim of the sophomore slump, but he’s still only 20 years old. To me, this feels more like the Hawks wanting to compete right now and not having the patience to live through Risacher’s growing pains. Maybe this ends up being one of those trades we have to wait a few years to properly judge, depending on how successful the Hawks become and what kind of career Risacher ultimately has. For the Dallas Mavericks, they get to be the team that takes that gamble on Risacher, adding the 2024 No. 1 overall pick alongside the 2011 No. 1 overall pick, Kyrie Irving, and 2025 No. 1 overall pick, Cooper Flagg, without really giving up much of anything. I really wish the Bulls had found a way to get involved in this trade instead of Dallas. Yes, Summer League doesn’t really matter, but seeing the “older” Yaxel Lendeborg ball out has to feel good for the college basketball sickos. He finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game, earning Summer League Finals MVP honors.
