After days of wildfire smoke, Saturday will bring some improvement from conditions on Thursday, when Chicago’s air quality was ranked the worst among any major city in the world. However, it still won’t be completely clear outside, and conditions are expected to deteriorate later this weekend as more smoke arrives.
In addition to the smoke, severe weather is possible, with a chance of thunderstorms later in the day.
NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack explained, as of Saturday morning, air quality had improved to moderate-to-good levels, with relatively good air quality stretching from New Lenox up to Libertyville and beyond.
However, it’s expected to get a little unhealthy at times. If wildfire smoke caused any breathing issues on Friday, you’ll likely want to take precautions as similar conditions return.
While skies were mainly clear on Saturday morning, a plume of smoke is expected to arrive this evening and persist overnight into early Sunday. Sack explained much of the smoke will likely remain in the upper levels of the atmosphere, though air quality could still pose problems for those with breathing issues.
Meanwhile, the threat of severe weather remains as a front moves through the region.
