“I feel very fortunate in retrospect, you know, to have had a big hit like ‘Science,’ because it opened a lot of doors for me, collaborations with other artists, productions, playing keyboards and so on,” he continued. “But it also meant that a lot of music fans sort of made that discovery of my quieter, more introspective music, like the music on The Flat Earth or Astronauts & Heretics, and many of them stuck with that, and those are the songs they talk about… that they fanboy over and it's not actually the radio hits.”
“Music videos were sort of new and exciting,” he shared, noting that it became “a different way to consume music,” and it didn’t even matter the genre.
“And this is like showing a bull a red flag because I’d always wanted to be a filmmaker,” he revealed. “I came up with the title ‘She Blinded Me With Science,’ and it sounded like a hit to me just from the title. I didn’t have the words or the song yet, but I started sketching out a storyboard for the video.”
