It is nice to see Coby Bryant get some love on ESPN’s list of the NFL’s best safeties, as voted on by the league’s coaches, scouts, and executives.
ESPN wrapped up its rollout of rankings listing the league’s best players at every position by sharing who NFL executives, scouts, and coaches surveyed had as the best safeties. And while Chicago Bears safety Coby Bryant did not make the top 10, he did earn an Honorable Mention. That’s pretty neat!
“I love him,” said an anonymous NFL coordinator quoted in the ESPN story. “He’s a corner by trade, so he has good feet and ball skills, but he will hit, too, now.”

Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn ImagesThe Bears made Bryant a priority signing when free agency opened in March. Since then, we have spilled plenty of virtual ink breaking down the new guy’s addition. Colleague Patrick Flowers explained why Chicago’s front office and coaching staff prioritized signing Bryant as a free agent. And I’ve written about the team’s pitch to Bryant that helped lure him to the Windy City, as well as the safety’s willingness to take rookie Dillon Thieneman under his wing.
After a successful run in Seattle, I look forward to seeing what Coby Bryant can do in Chicago. Perhaps he will make the top 10 list when next year’s survey drops.

Coby Bryant Rounds Out Bears Players Named in ESPN’s Survey to Unearth the NFL’s Best
Nothing announces the upcoming NFL season like ESPN’s annual top-10 series. Every year, NFL executives, coaches, and scouts are polled to rank the league’s best players position by position. Not only does this series usher in the return of tangible football talk, but it also offers a glimpse at how folks around the league have stacked up each position group.
Unlike previous years, when the Bears were mostly absent from this list, we have had a handful of players mentioned in the top 10, earning “honorable mention” status, or in the “also receiving votes” category at their position. It’s quite the collection we have been discussing so far. And, frankly, it has gotten me that much more excited about the upcoming season.
Quarterback Caleb Williams landed as a top-10 quarterback, edging Jordan Love, Jayden Daniels, and Super Bowl-winning signal caller Sam Darnold in dramatic fashion. Tight end Colston Loveland made the cut as one of the NFL’s 10 best tight ends. Darnell Wright has checked in as the NFL’s highest-rated right tackle. Future Hall of Famer Joe Thuney was named one of the five best interior offensive linemen.

Tight end Cole Kmet was an honorable mention, too. As did safety, Coby Bryant. D’Andre Swift received votes as a top running back, while Montez Sweat generated some buzz in the poll to land just outside the top 10 list of NFL edge rushers. T.J. Edwards received votes acknowledging his presence among the league’s top off-ball linebackers.
ESPN’s position-by-position top 10 rankings rollout is over. The only spots in which the Bears didn’t get a top player mentioned were at the interior defensive line and wide receiver positions. It wasn’t surprising to see that no Bears defensive tackles made the top 10. However, I still think this defensive line can be a pleasant surprise if things bounce their way. And you already know I’m all in on buying Luther Burden III stock in 2026.
