A crash involving multiple vehicles and a Chicago Transit Authority bus in the city’s Bridgeport neighborhood prompted a large emergency response on Tuesday evening, video showed.
Around 7:20 p.m., a 27-year-old operating a cargo van southbound on Ashland Avenue attempted to make a turn to head east on Archer Avenue when he struck an SUV that was being driven by a 25-year-old woman eastbound on Archer Avenue. Then, the driver of the cargo van struck an SUV that was being driven by a 52-year-old man. The 52-year-old’s car was pushed by the impact of the crash into a CTA bus that was stopped at a red light at the intersection.
The 27-year-old driver of the cargo van was taken to a local hospital with a stomach injury where he was initially listed in fair condition, authorities said. he was also cited for failure to reduce speed and improper turn. All of the other people involved declined medical attention.
CTA officials said no passengers were on the bus when the crash occured.
Video shared to social media showed several police cars, a fire truck and at least one ambulance in the area of South Ashland Avenue and South Archer Avenue near a CTA bus. A white van with a sign that read “Delivery Driver” could be seen near the bus facing the opposite direction of the flow of traffic.
A person wearing what appeared to be a blue Amazon vest could also be seen standing nearby, though it was not immediately known if they were the driver of a vehicle involved.
