The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced Saturday that the official website of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has been integrated into the applications of various mobile phone service providers operating in Egypt.
In a statement, the ministry explained that this step aims to facilitate online ticket booking and enhance secure access to the museum’s digital services.
The ministry indicated that this step will allow millions of users direct and secure access to the official website and enable them to book visits through a reliable and trusted channel.
It added that the museum’s official website is now available through the Vodafone app, the museum’s official technology sponsor, as well as the apps of Orange, Etisalat, and WE (a subsidiary of Telecom Egypt).
The ministry confirmed that this step comes under a cooperation framework between the GEM and mobile network operators in Egypt to enhance the visitor experience, raise cybersecurity levels, and protect the public from getting scammed by fake websites.
The ministry added that it is currently studying the possibility of enabling payment for visit tickets through mobile network wallets, in addition to the existing payment methods using bank cards.
This will provide easier and more flexible digital payment options and simplify the online booking process.
Commitment to integration
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said that the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to strengthening integration between state institutions and the private sector to provide secure and reliable digital services.
This ensures easy access for visitors to official channels and enhances trust in electronic services.
He added that cooperation with mobile phone companies, given their extensive user bases and advanced digital platforms, contributes to expanding secure access to the GEM’s official website.
Fathy affirmed the ministry’s continued support for initiatives that utilize technology to develop tourism services and protect user data.
Digital strategy
The CEO of the GEM Authority, Ahmed Ghoneim, explained that this step is part of the museum’s strategy to build an integrated digital system that prioritizes visitor safety and ease of access to services.
He stated that making the official website available through mobile operators’ applications represents an additional, reliable channel for booking visits and obtaining official information.
Ghoneim stressed that the museum’s official website remains the only official channel for booking visits and accessing all museum-related information, urging the public to exercise caution and avoid dealing with unofficial websites or links from unknown sources.
