On Friday, Alabama football landed in-state quarterback Kingston Preyear from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City.
Preyear stands at 6-feet-3-inches, 195 pounds and is still growing. His top receiver from last season was former five-star Cederian Morgan, who is entering his freshman year in Tuscaloosa and was a major player in Preyear’s recruitment.
In 2025, Preyear posted 34 touchdown passes on 3,026 yards and an efficient 61.8% completion percentage en route to a 12-2 record as Benjamin Russell’s starting quarterback. He also rushed 93 times for 518 yards and added two touchdowns on the ground.
As a freshman in 2024, he led Montgomery Catholic to a 5A state title, going 9-0 as the starter with 20 touchdown passes and just two interceptions.
He also shows his athleticism as a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball, baseball and competing in track during his first two years of high school.
“Coach Ellis and Coach Grubb really sold it,” Preyear said. “We sat down with them and they laid out the development plan, getting on the field and different things. I really loved that.”
Preyear is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2028 Rivals Industry Recruiting rankings and a top 60 player nationally. He had offers from major programs all over the country, but eventually chose the Crimson Tide out of a top three, which included Florida and Vanderbilt.
“They can develop the crap out of a quarterback,” Preyear told On3’s Chad Simmons. “It feels great to know that I’ll be able to recruit other guys to build a team around me so we can go win a national championship and bring Bama football back.”
He joins three-star Charles Scott Jr. as the two quarterbacks in Alabama’s 2028 class. They will join a talented positional group, with the Crimson Tide landing five-star Keelon Russell in 2025, five-star Jett Thomalla and three-star Tayden-Evan Kaawa in 2026 plus five-star Elijah Haven and four-star Trent Seaborn in 2027.
Preyear will join Seaborn as the only two in-state products at the quarterback position.
